Safe Water Ceramics of East Africa
Safe Water Ceramics of East Africa (now called Wine to Water)
Note: Wine to Water is a non-profit located in North Carolina that recently partnered with Safe Water Ceramics to expand the use of their water filters. Wine To Water East Africa is headquartered in Tanzania, a country with diverse geography, including mountains in the North, rivers in the Midlands, active volcanoes, and the Great Rift Valley. Despite having abundant water resources, these resources are unevenly distributed across the country, and some regions experience water shortages.
According to the United Nations, over 40% of the Tanzanian population lacks access to clean water, which disproportionately affects women and girls who are the primary collectors of water every day. Women and girls spend a total of 16 million hours per day collectively collecting water across the country. Moreover, the World Health Organization estimates that diarrhea due to contaminated water is the fourth leading cause of death in Tanzania.
Wine to Water’s Tanzania office is making a positive impact in the region by working with multiple schools through our Water4Schools program, collaborating with a ceramic filter factory, and engaging with local teams towards community water systems like wells and aqueducts.
The filters are made locally in Arusha at The Safe Water Ceramics East Africa factory. The filter is made from a mix of sawdust, clay and colloidal silver, which is used for purifying the water.
–It is tested at 99.99% microbial effectiveness.
–Purifies water, no need to boil water
–Fresh taste as charcoal produced from burned sawdust restores natural water taste.
–Simple and easy to use
–Low maintenance. Clean the filter monthly.
–With proper care, the filter can last 5-6 years
–Saves money as no need to use fuel to boil water
–Environmentally friendly as no more plastic bottles
