goodnewsclublogo01sqGood News Club Training:
Okatee Baptist Church
August 13

The Good News Club is a weekly after-school program for students to come and hear the Gospel in Bible readings through lessons, songs, and crafts. All student participants receive an Action Bible. The curriculum is completely prepared and easy to run.

This school year, there is the wonderful possibility that Church of the Palms can sponsor a club and provide volunteers who can serve to facilitate the program at Okatie Elementary School.

What is needed for this program to start this fall?

1. 6-8 volunteers who can serve in a variety of roles. These roles can be rotated and trained volunteers can cover for each other in the necessity of an absence.
2. Volunteers who can attend a training session at Okatie Baptist church where Mark Mansel (Director) can take us through the operation of a club. August 13 from 9-11:30.
3. Volunteers willing to go through security check.
4. Volunteers who love to share the GOOD NEWS with young folks. (No teaching experience needed)

Who wants to share, and influence our young people, with the word of God?

Emmaus Walk Pilgrims!

emmausreunion01sqJoin Pastor Pete and Pat Ary on Wednesday, August 17, at 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall to discuss reforming Reunion Groups.

If you have been on the Walk to Emmaus, please consider coming. Use this SignUpGenius or call the church office at 843-379-1888 to let us know. Based on interest, we will organize and form reunion groups.

An Emmaus group reunion is a small accountability group of two to 8 persons who have usually participated in the three-day Walk to Emmaus and who want to continue their pursuit of a life lived wholly in the grace of God.

connectedinprayer02sqYou are invited to a very special prayer service on Friday, August 19, at 11 a.m. My House of Prayer is a time of reflection and repentance. A time to talk to God and listen for God’s word. It is a quiet time to feel the love God has for YOU! It is also a time of thanksgiving and joy for all the blessings God has bestowed on YOU!

Please join us as we quietly hear music, scripture and prayer that will help us to feel the warmth and love that the Lord's House of Prayer offers to each and every one of us. It is a time for us to be quiet and to honestly talk quietly to our Heavenly Father.

spiritualgift01sqBe part of the church-wide initiative to help us all identify and explore our spiritual gifts. It all starts with an understanding that each Christian has received certain gifts to be used to build up the body of Christ. No one receives all the spiritual gifts, but God has given at least one gift, and often several, to each individual. We are to use our gifts in service to meet the needs of the world as the hands, feet, eyes, and ears of Christ.

Starting August 27 you will be able to complete a paper-based Spiritual Gifts Inventory survey. The survey has been developed by Stephen Ministries and Pastor Pete has found it to be very informative in the many times he has used it with groups and individuals.

The survey is NOT a test of your level of faith or spirituality. Rather, it’s an opportunity to enrich your faith and discover how you can best service Christ’s mission in the world.

Watch for more details, but if you have already made a decision, sign up using this SignUpGenius link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/spiritualgifts or send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to reserve your survey.

heirloomlove02sqDick and Ann Tullie will lead a 6-week study of Heirloom Love by Dominic Sputo starting Sunday, September 11, at 9:45 a.m.

This study has six daily lessons each week (usually less than 1/2 hour of time needed for each lesson). Banners from several persecuted churches across the globe will focus prayers at the conclusion of each lesson.

Study guides ($14.00) need to be ordered by August 26. The study guides will be distributed about a week before the class starts. 2 people may share a guide. If the cost presents a barrier, register anyway, and let us know so the guide may be gifted.

Register via SignUpGenius or call the church office at 843-379-1888.

Dick and Ann share this information on their passion for this topic and study:

"About three years ago, we were at a global mission conference and introduced to the plight of persecuted Christians. Little did we know their suffering and obedience to the Lord. More Christians are being martyred, tortured, incarcerated, and oppressed for Christ's sake than ever before. As Dominic Sputo (author of Heirloom Love) says, "the church of Jesus is suffering as much as - if not more than- it ever has. That's why the New Testament's teachings on helping persecuted believers are as critically relevant today as when first written."
