Gold Star Families are those who have lost a precious son or daughter in service to our country. Words cannot express this kind of loss, but to recognize their sacrifice, the card ministry of Chruch of the Palms would like to acknowledge and honor these families on their special day of recognition, Sept. 30.
Have you been hearing all the buzz about FAN? People
People are asking, what is this FAN thing and what does it do? Does it cool you down? Are we going to make pretty fans out of palm tree leaves? Just what is this FAN thing?
Well, it will all be unveiled on August 27. We'll gather after the 2nd service to share another potluck meal. (Don't you just love that we always include food in our celebrations?)
Mark your calendars for August 27 at 12:30 p.m., invite your friends, share some food and learn what FAN is and how it can affect you!
For more information, you can always contact Sharon Crout at 843-715-6024 because she is always looking for energetic people to assist.
Your assistance is needed during our ministry of Family Promise as we provide shelter to homeless families. Our week to host is coming up from September 24 - October 1.
Consider providing food, or supplies, or spending an evening and overnight with these guests. Look for opportunities to train or serve at SignUp Genius or in the book in Narthex.
Brothers Too!, men meeting on alternating Saturday mornings. for breakfast and Bible study will continue a study of Ezra on August 26, at Ezra 3:8. Breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. with the study starting at 8 a.m. and concluding by 8:30 a.m.
The book of Ezra records two separate time periods directly following the seventy years of Babylonian captivity. Chapters 1-6 of Ezra covers the first return of Jews from captivity. Led by Zerubbabel, following the edict of Cyrus of Persia, this portion ends after twenty-three years with the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. Ezra 7–10 picks up the story more than sixty years later when Ezra led the second group of exiles to Israel.
The card making ministry for Church of the Palms is meeting at Susan Voyles, at 9 Sunbeam Drive, Sun City, on Saturday, August 26, from 9:30 a.m. - noon.
Contact Susan at 843-707-7030 for information or to have her call you in a gate pass.
You do not need to be creative to be part of this ministry because the designs are mass produced.
The development of Africa University is a consequence of the growth of United Methodism in Africa. The growth in membership and the emerging socio-economic and political needs in their countries led the African Bishops of the United Methodist Church (UMC) to call on their Church to invest in higher education provision in Africa.
1980 - Bishop Arthur Kulah of Liberia and Bishop Emilio J. M. de Carvalho of Angola took the lead in advocating for ‘a university for all of Africa’. Their efforts generated a positive response within the United Methodist Church worldwide and in 1985 the ‘Africa Initiative’ was born.
We will meet on Tuesday, September 12, to sew cancer caps. We start at 9:00 a.m and go until 2:00 p.m. If you can't stay the whole time, we would love to have you for whatever time you can give us.
You do not have to know how to sew as we have other jobs such as cutting, pinning, turnings, ironing, and putting the caps into bags for delivery.
Last time we had a record 13 women come and completed 36 caps! If you are staying all day, don't forget your lunch and a drink! Hope to see more new faces!
