Prayer Ministry

prayinghands01The Prayer Ministry at Church of the Palms serves to provide consistent prayer to God on behalf of people, ministries, events, the church and unchurched.

Joys and concerns are shared during worship on Sunday morning and throughout the week.  Members of the Prayer Ministry commit to lifting up these concerns before God in intercessory prayer.  These prayers are also posted on Wailing Wall - a unique feature within the worship space of Church of the Palms.  When the church first started and was a traveling church, the members carried a bulletin board with a drawn rock background.  On this board the prayers were posted each week.  When the building was constructed, the Wailing Wall came home to rest!

If you have a prayer request during the week please contact the Church Secretary at 843-379-1888 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or complete an online Prayer Request.

Stephen Ministry

stephenministry01Christ Caring for People through People

Our Stephen Ministry program equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian, one-to-one care to anyone in our congregation or community who is going through a difficult time and in need of support from a Christian friend.

Stephen Ministry - Meeting the Needs of People

There are times when each of us needs the care of another person...a Christian friend...a Stephen Minister. If you are dealing with any of the following challenges in your life, please contact us so that we can help:

  • Hospitalized
  • Terminally ill and their families
  • Moving into or out of our community
  • Grieving a death or serious loss
  • Homebound and institutionalized
  • Prisoners, ex-offenders and their families
  • In job crisis
  • Aging and elderly
  • Disabled (and their families)
  • Needing the support of a Christian friend
  • Facing life transitions
  • Separated or divorced
  • Experiencing birth or adoption
  • In spiritual crisis

Stephen Ministry Multiplies Our Christian Caregiving And Outreach

Our Stephen Ministers work together with our pastor to reach more people with Christian care than pastors can by themselves. People who receive care from a Stephen Minister:

  • Receive quality Christian care,
  • Deepen their relationship with their Lord,
  • Grow in their desire to participate in Christian community,
  • Come to value ministry from another lay person, while continuing contact with the pastor.

Stephen Ministry enhances the outreach of Church of the Palms by:
  • Creating a caring ministry outreach, where many are offering God's love and care in intentional, systematic ways;
  • Enabling our entire congregation to grow as a warm, loving, nurturing community, where people are cherished and cared for in Jesus Christ;
  • Identifying our congregation to our community as a place where people's needs are taken seriously.

About the Leaders of Our Congregation's Stephen Ministry

Stephen Leaders are pastors, church staff, and volunteers who have completed a Stephen Series Leader's Training Course (LTC), and are commissioned by our congregation. Pastor Pete and Sharon Crout recently attended a LTC and were commissioned at Church of the Palms on January 17, 2016.

These leaders are now working to revitalize our Stephen Ministry.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

prayershawls01Shawls are made by the members of the church and are blessed and prayed over before they are given. The shawls are then presented to those in need of healing, comfort or peace. It is our hope that when they are used by the recipients, they will feel themselves wrapped in prayer and God’s peace.

If you know of anyone in need of a prayer shawl or wish to participate in this ministry, please contact Elaine Graham or Sharon Boulware.

Card Ministry

cardministry01Our Card Ministry provides encouragement to our congregation and community by sending greeting cards and personal notes to guest and friends, residents in nursing homes and to church members.

If you have a loved one that needs extra encouragement please send address information to Eileen Baker.
